Nanterre is a suburb on the western outskirts of Paris, about 10kms from the centre of the capital. The important district of La Defense is partially located within Nanterre. Home to many of France's largest corporations, La Defense has a thriving business atmosphere as well as some of the tallest buildings in Paris. The University of Paris X, one of the largest campuses in the Paris region, is also here, adding a lively element to the district thanks to its large student population. While few tourists choose to stay in this part of Paris, there are many hotels in Nanterre catering to the business community and university visitors. A decent selection of restaurants, bars and shopping areas can be found in Nanterre, ensuring visitors have plenty of ways to keep entertained.
