Introduction to Paris - Montmartre
The Montmartre district of Paris is part of the northern region of inner-Paris and home to a prominent hill standing more than 100 metres above the city. Visible from most parts of the French capital, the district is located in the 18th arrondissement and can be easily reached via line 2 and 12 of the Paris Metro system. However, with its beautiful attractions, it is not uncommon to see tourists choosing Montmartre hotels for their holiday accommodation. The most prolific attraction in the area stands atop the hill itself. It is the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur, which features a stunning white facade and exquisitely landscaped gardens, not to mention offering superb views of the city. However, this is not the only thing drawing tourists this far away from the heart of Paris. The world renowned cabaret, the Moulin Rouge, is found just to the south of the district and Place du Terte, which is a small arty commune in the district that contains many portrait painting artists, is also worth visiting.
