Introduction to Paris - Eiffel Tower
The 325m high Eiffel Tower is the tallest structure in Paris and one of the most visited tourist sites in the world. The tower was erected in 1889 and offers visitors panoramic views of the French capital’s myriad draws from three different levels. The tower is situated in the Champ de Mars district, on the opposite bank of the River Seine from the Trocadero Gardens. The Pont d'Iena bridge links the two and permits guests staying at Eiffel Tower hotels to walk across to the gardens. The Fountain of Warsaw and the stately Palais de Chaillot, home to museums such as the Naval Museum, are the highlights of the gardens. On the tower side of the river, attractions include the Quai Branly Museum, the Eglise du Dome church and the Hotel National des Invalides. The church is the final resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte. The museum’s permanent collections number more than 5,000 artefacts which have been collected from all over the world.
