Introduction to Narbonne, France
In south-central France, 15kms from the Mediterranean Sea and 850kms from Paris, lies the commune of Narbonne, in Aude department. The biggest attraction in town is the unfinished Narbonne Cathedral, built near the city's 5th century pre-Visigothic walls. The religious structure still stuns visitors with its courtyard, side chapels and choir. The residents of Narbonne were instrumental in seeing the Canal de la Robine built in the 1700s to boost the town's trade opportunities. It runs through the middle of town. Other chief sites include the Palais des Archeveques (Archbishop's Palace), which dates to 1272, the Archaeological Museum and the Roman Horreum, a former grain warehouse that was built as an underground corridor, or cryptoporticus. Also worth a look are the remains of Via Domitia, the Halles covered market - which is particularly busy on Sunday and Thursday mornings - as well as the limestone massif known as La Clape. Ubiquitous Narbonne hotels are scattered around the town and provide easy access to the main sites.other spellings: narbonenhotels, narbonne otel, narbnone hotell, narobnne hote, nabronne hotes
