The historic town of Montelimar, located in southeastern France in the Drome department, is known as the 'City of Nougat' after the white sweet once produced in great quantities locally. Celts and Romans have both lived here as a result of the town's status as a gateway to the south. Tours of the town and the surrounding area are often accompanied by the heady fragrance of lavender blooming in nearby fields.
