Introduction to Mont Saint Michel, France
Mont Saint Michel is situated close to the border between Normandy and Brittany. Visitors come here to see the Abbey of Mont Saint Michel and although the island is not large there is a small selection of hotels in Mont Saint Michel. Rather than stay in one of the Mont Saint Michel hotels many visitors choose to stop in Pontorson on the mainland. There is only one way to see the Abbey and that is on foot. Be patient as the hillside is steep in places slowing some tourists and choose your time to visit carefully as it does get very busy with most visitors in the summer months. For food and drink, the old town area at the foot of the hill has a number of cafs, restaurants and other outlets. Another alternative to the Mont Saint Michel hotels is to take a daytrip from towns further afield like Rennes from where the drive is easy.
