The charming little village of Mezos sits in the far southwest of France, in the Landes department, in an area famous for seaside tourism, forests and agriculture. Without a doubt, the prettiest local historical attraction is the charming little Church of St John the Baptist, which dates from the 14th century and is built from locally-sourced red stone. Hotels in Mezos offer an outstanding chance to relax in a peaceful community with excellent access to a range of outdoor attractions. Though a recent storm decimated the local forests, the surrounding countryside is awash in trees, most of them distinctive pine. Miles of Biscay beaches are just 20 minutes away by road. The area is popular with both cyclists and hikers. Much of the region used to be marshes, some of which can still be seen at the stunning Arjuzanx Lake nature reserve, about 30kms to the east. Morcenx, about half a mile before the lake, is home to the closest railway station. Bordeaux Airport is about 90 minutes to the north, via the E5 Euroroute.
