The Mercure la Rochelle Vieux Port Sud Hotel is a nautically themed hotel, just 2 minutes from the train station on foot. Some rooms have harbour views, while others face the side of the aquarium, meaning that guests with any special requests should call ahead. Rooms tend to be on the small side and resemble a ship’s cabin. However, they are clean and comfortable and therefore perfectly adequate for any short stay in this historic city. There are plenty of restaurants in the Old Port, but its well worth spending at least 1 dinnertime at the hotel’s ‘La Nautile’ restaurant, which has excellent views of the harbour and La Rochelle’s 3 towers.
