Introduction to Mazamet, France
The small town of Mazamet sits within a verdant and mountainous area of southern France's Tam department. Home to some 12,000 people, the town is part of the Castres-Mazamet metropolitan area. Known for its location at a regional crossroads, the town sits on the edge of the Montagne Noire, at the southern end of the large Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park. Though much of the town can be explored on foot from hotels in Mazamet, many of the local attractions are spread around the local countryside. The beautiful medieval stone village of Hautpoul is about 10 minutes by car to the south. Many prehistoric Neolithic stone structures dot the region, with the Menir of Prats being the tallest in the area. The town's historical museum is an important and popular destination. The many impressive churches and temples, such as Saint-Sauveur, testify to the region's role in history. A viewing site at Plo de la Bise, just south of town, provides an impressive vista taking in the town, Hautupol and the valley. Good transport links are available, whether using the bus, the SNCF rail station in the centre of town or the highways linking to regional cities. The local airport connects to Paris and Lyon.other spellings: mazamehotels, nazamet otel, mazamte hotell, mazaemt hote, mazmaet hotes
