Introduction to Mauzens et Miremont, France
An historic and scenic hilltop town in the Dordogne department, Mauzens et Miremont has many historic buildings of its own as well as local attractions that draw tourists to this area of France. Even today, the warm yellow stone that is characteristic of many local buildings is still quarried. Hotels in Mauzens et Miremont sit in the Black Perigord area, a region of Perigord famed for a black truffle of the same name and for the stunning 'black' forests that cover much of the countryside. The twin towers of the ruined Miremont Castle loom above the hills, while the town is home to a fortified church dating from the 13th century. Both the town and the region contain a wealth of impressive and historic buildings, many of which are stunning old chateaux. Walking tours are popular in the local hills, with one top trail being the Miremont Loop. The whole area is rich in history, with some artefacts and sites dating back some 80,000 years. The local SNCF railway station is only a few minutes away and thanks to the D710 highway, the airport at Perigueux is only about 40 minutes away.
