France's third-largest city is a treasure trove of beautiful architecture, lively people and a diverse dining and drinking scene. Shaped by the two rivers that cut through the city, Lyon is divided into nine districts, each with its own character. Several parks surround the city's edge, including the amazing Parc de la Tete d'Or, a 105-hectare English-style garden that is widely regarded as one of France's most beautiful public spaces. Next to the park is Brotteaux, Lyon's wealthiest district and home to some excellent restaurants, shops and neighbourhoods. On the south end of the city is Gerland Park, another marvelous green space right at the confluence of the two rivers. Several small medieval villages can be explored in the outskirts of the area, such as Perouges. The Car Museum of Rochetaillee is another popular attraction just outside Lyon where one can see a huge collection of vintage cars, including Hitler's armoured vehicle. The best hotels in Lyon are located in the historic centre, though there are plenty of practical choices for accommodation in nearly every corner of the city's outskirts.
