Introduction to Lorient, France

In the far northwest of France lies Lorient. It is popular with tourists as it was once the site of a German U boat submarine base during WWII, which is now open to the public to visit and take a guided tour around. As Lorient is located on the coast, hotels in Lorient have followed suit, with the larger, more luxurious hotels being located near to the marina. The town was part of the Tour de France cycling race in 2006 although the race has not been through since. Lorient hotels get put to good use during the summer months, especially for the Celtic Music Festival that is held here. The restaurants in the area are known mostly for their seafood dishes as the town is a fishing haven although other dishes are available also. Getting to the town is easy by plane or TGV train from Paris.
