Introduction to Lille - Vauban
The Vauban district in the city of Lille, France lies just steps away from one of the largest green spaces in the country's fifth most populated metropolitan area. Vauban hotels are located in one of Lille's most peaceful neighbourhoods, yet less than a 15-minute walk away from most of the city's main attractions. The city's distinguished district of Vauban can be found near La Catho, as residents call the local university. The Vauban district is named after the famed French engineer who designed one of the city's most famous landmarks, its pentagon shaped citadel. This citadel was first constructed in 1668 and now stands in the middle of Bois de Boulogne, which also contains the city zoo. Lille's zoo was France's fourth most visited tourist attraction in 2000.
