Introduction to Les Deux Alpes, France
Just 44 miles from Grenoble in southeastern France's Alps region, Les Deux Alpes is an extensive ski resort with the largest skiable glacier in Europe and facilities for snowboarders. This is one of only a handful of winter sports resorts that can be skied in the summer on the glacier itself at some 3,400 metres above sea level, although ski lifts up to the pistes close at certain times of year. Other popular sports here in summer include mountain biking and trekking, making this a year-round venue for outdoor activities. As one of the oldest ski resorts in France, and among the largest, Les Deux Alpes has developed significant infrastructure to get to the pistes, including a funicular railway and 23 chair lifts as well as gondolas and cable cars.
