The little town of Le Tholy offers a great chance to get off the beaten track while remaining within easy reach of key attractions. The biggest destination in the Lorraine region and close to hotels in Le Tholy is a massive expanse of nature areas starting on the town's eastern edge. The church is home to a statue of the Madonna dating from 1760. The sculptor Jean Parisse created a statue of Our Lady of Tholy that resides in a small circular chapel. The Vosges region is among the most heavily-wooded in the country. This area in particular enjoys large forested areas. From Le Tholy, one need just drive a few miles along the D417 to enter these beautiful alpine forests. Lac de Gerardmer is less than 15 minutes away by car. Many other beautiful lakes, waterfalls and even hot springs can be enjoyed here during the summer months. In the winter, the region boasts a number of popular ski resorts. Strasbourg is less than two hours by car to the north. Flights can also be caught from Mulhouse, which is about 90 minutes away by car through the vast forests to the east.
