Motor racing has made Le Mans known to many people and if you are not interested in the 24-hour race the town is best avoided for a few weeks around the middle of June each year. There are reasonable Le Mans hotels close to the train station but these are more geared towards business visitors rather than pleasure. The best Le Mans hotels for leisure visitors are situated in the centre of town. Le Mans is split between the old and the new cities. The main tourist attractions and the best restaurants can be found in the old centre while the bulk of the most popular bars and clubs can be found around the Place de la Republique.
