Introduction to Grasse, France
Grasse, France has been considered the world's perfume capital for over two centuries, and much of the country's famous perfume industry is based in this coastal community 16kms north of Cannes. Many guests at Grasse hotels are perfume employees who spend time in the community to better develop their senses of smell, but these are certainly not the only people who come to Grasse. Three Rubens paintings hang inside the 11th century Notre Dame du Puy cathedral, while another church called Placassier was constructed here in 1644. Saracen Tower stands 30m high, and a monumental gate guards the City Hall. Museums dedicated to marine activities, regional art and history, and of course, perfume are also part of the town. One of the world's most famous perfume companies, Fragonard, has had its own separate museum since 1921. Two impressive olive oil mills can also be found here, as can breathtaking views of the nearby Antibes and Cannes coastlines. other spellings: grasshotels, glass otel, gras hotell, glas hote, garass hotes, garas hotle, rasse, rase
