Introduction to Draguignan, France
The southeastern French commune of Draguignan began as a Roman fort, and its name originates from the Latin word for 'dragon'. With modest ratings and convenient distances of just 80kms from Nice and 40kms from St Tropez, Draguignan hotels are among the area's most affordable accommodations. The region's biggest shopping centre is situated in Draguignan, and the community's market days are Saturday and Wednesday. In the 17th century, the local clock tower was constructed on the same hill where the original Roman fort once stood, and visitors can see unforgettable countryside views from the tower's summit. The community's two major museums are dedicated to artillery and Provencal traditions, while the two significant churches are named St Michel and Notre-Dame du Peuple. This French military town also contains the large Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial, dedicated to the American WWII soldiers who lost their lives while fighting in the region. The huge prehistoric dolmen just outside the community is known as the Fairy's Stone. other spellings: draguignanhotels, draguigman otel, draguignna hotell, draguigann hote, draguingan
