The Dordogne is a region of south-west France. The region is a popular tourist destination and has varied accommodation options such as Dordogne hotels, gites, bed and breakfasts, hostels and campsites. Holidaymakers are attracted to Dordogne by its multiple charms, warm climate and relaxing life style. The Dordogne countryside is verdant and rolling and has countless enchanting stone villages and towns scattered around it. Many of the towns have Dordogne hotels choices. Sarlat was the mediaeval capital of the Dordogne. Sarlat has narrow maze like streets, the 12th century Lanterne des Morts tower and the magnificent Maison de La Boetie. Several Dordogne hotels and guest houses are dotted around the town. Dordogne hotels allow visitors to travel round the region easily. Other places to visit include Domme, a hilltop town and the mediaeval town of Monpazier. Beynac Castle, or Chateau, dates from the 12th century and is one of an estimated 5,000 castles in Dordogne. The well preserved Beynac Castle perched on a cliff, towers over Beynac Town and the Dordogne River.
