Few locations in France's northwestern-most region, Brittany, are photographed more often than the view of Ville Close, the medieval walled town which is part of the community of Concarneau. This spectacular view can also be easily seen from most Concarneau hotels, whether they are situated in Ville Close itself or the more modern mainland municipality. A drawbridge links modern Concarneau to the long island where Ville Close is situated, in the middle of the harbour. Although most Ville Close shops and restaurants are geared towards tourists, the area retains its traditional charm. Ville Close is also home to the local fishing museum, while the neighbouring modern community remains home to one of France's final traditional canning factories and biggest tuna fishing ports. The local fish market takes place not long after each sunrise, and the town's surrounding ramparts are illuminated each night. A couple of small beaches can also be located here.
