Situated in the very heart of France in the department of Puy de Dume, Chatel-Guyon is a small rural town just north of Clermont-Ferrand and east of Limoges, which lies further away. The town is the source of thermal springs with high levels of magnesium, which is said to be good for a number of ailments including rheumatism and digestive complaints among others. It is also known as a town in bloom, with its many flower gardens and deciduous trees as well as the man-made pleasures to be found at the local casino. Chatel-Guyon advertises itself as a jumping-off point for numerous historical sites too, many of which lie in close proximity to the town, which is itself surrounded by rural areas suitable for walking. Chatel-Guyon hotels are hardly numerous but there are a few excellent high-end options here that tie in with the spa culture at reasonable rates compared to those in larger towns and cities in France.
