It took a decade to build the impressive 16th century building which now houses the Chateau Des Ducs De Joyeuse Hotel, Couiza. The Aude River flows through the expansive grounds surrounding this imposing estate which transports its guests back to medieval times during their stay here. Each of the dozen apartment suites and 35 rooms are elaborately decorated in unique ways, and the castle’s former chapel is now a lounge and beautiful dining room. Guests may also decide to enjoy their meals in the relaxing outdoor courtyard, which resembles a private sidewalk cafe. The staff members may sometimes be dressed in medieval costumes, but modern conveniences like a free wireless Internet hotspot and conference facilities are also easily available. This is a medieval castle with turrets and thick walls. It is all in very good condition.
