Introduction to Chartres, France
Chartres is a city in northern France, about 100kms to the west of Paris. Chartres is easily recognised by the spires of its famous cathedral, which can be seen a good distance from the city. Around the cathedral area there are several Chartres hotels choices. The area between Chartres Cathedral and the banks of the River Eure is the old city. The old city is characterised by cobbled streets lined with 500-year-old timber framed houses. More Chartres hotels and guest houses are in traditional buildings in the old quarter. Several three and four star Chartres hotels are situated in the more spacious areas and the suburbs outside the old city. Aside from Chartres Cathedral, other tourist sites in Chartres include churches, several museums and ancient structures such as the 14th century Porte Guillaume gateway and towers. Chartres hotels provide a good start point for excursions to the local countryside, known as the Granary of France.other spellings: chartreshotels, chartres otel, chatres hotell, chatres hote, chartress hotle
