Introduction to Channel Tunnel, France
The Channel Tunnel, or Chunnel, is a train tunnel, running under the English Channel, between Folkestone in England and Coquelles in France. Coquelles is six kilometres from the port town of Calais. On the French side there are a few accommodation options close to the tunnel terminal and the Cite Europe shopping complex. A further choice of hotels is spread around the area and also on the coast road leading to Calais. There are also camp sites, bed and breakfasts and French-style traveller inns, called auberges, which offer accommodation facilities. The Channel Tunnel hotels close to the terminal provide the perfect place for a stopover on a long journey. Leading international hoteliers operate several hotels in Channel Tunnel with standards ranging from budget to four-stars. Coquelles has a few sightseeing attractions, such as the ruins of a mediaeval church and an old windmill, and restaurants. Cite Europe contains numerous shopping outlets, pubs and restaurants.
