Introduction to Caen, France
Caen is a historic city in the Normandy region of northern France. The River Orne passes through it and is 12kms from the English Channel's coast. This boasts numerous magnificent buildings, several of which date from the 11th century. The enormous Castle (Chateau de Caen) dominates the city from its raised position in the central area. Accommodation ranges from small family-run guesthouses through to four-star Caen hotels. Several choices are dotted around the streets adjacent to the castle. Other historical sights are Saint etienne Abbey, several other abbeys and churches, museums, Botanical Garden and the Peace Memorial. Hotels here is a good base to see the area. Attractions around include golden beaches with a backdrop of towering cliffs, agreeable countryside, war cemeteries and a mediaeval themed amusement park. An additional selection of accommodation and auberges (hostels) are located on the outskirts of the city near the outer ring road.other spellings: caenhotels, caen otel, cean hotell, caen hote, caen hotles, carn hotes
