Caen is a historic city in the Normandy region of northern France. The River Orne passes through Caen. Caen is 12kms from the English Channel’s coast. Caen boasts numerous magnificent buildings, several of which date from the 11th century. The enormous Caen Castle (Chteau de Caen) dominates the city from its raised position in the city centre. Accommodation in the city ranges from small family-run guesthouses through to four-star Caen hotels. Several Caen hotels choices are dotted around the streets adjacent to the castle. Other historical sights are Saint tienne Abbey, several other abbeys and churches, museums, Caen Botanical Garden and the Peace Memorial. Hotels in Caen offer a good base to see the area.
