Introduction to Brive, France
East of Bordeaux in the southwestern department of Correze in France, Brive is an attractive French city with plenty to keep tourists occupied. Although not the capital of the departement, Brive has long held an important role in the region, serving as a major area of resistance during WWII and earlier as a crossing point for travellers on the route between Paris and Toulouse. The main old bridge that served this road can still be seen outside the centre of the city, Pont Cardinale. One of the cultural highlights in Brive is the Labenche Museum, which features 17th century tapestries and a Neanderthal grave telling the long history of the area. The building, a Renaissance structure formerly known as Hotel Labenche, is a work of art in itself. Brive hotels are scattered around the city, with some located close to the train station in the south of the centre.
