In the north of France, within easy driving distance south of the port of Cherbourg, Bagnoles De L'Orne is a small town famous for its hydrotherapic baths that draw thousands of visitors each year hoping to benefit from the waters many healing powers. Built around a lake fed by the Vee River, the spa is the stuff of legend, given thermal activity here is thought to date back to the Middle Ages. Among the many healing powers of the spa are those thought to help circulatory, gynecological and rheumatic ailments. Aside from the spa, the main attraction here is the famous Belle epoque quarter with its excellently preserved bourgeoisie area featuring residential mansions, mostly from more than 100 years ago. These were mostly built for the wealthy who sought direct access to the healing powers of the nearby spa waters.
