Lying in the centre of France in Indre-et-Loire, a department named after two rivers that run through the area, Azay-le-Rideau is a quaint little French town with plenty of historic sights to keep tourists busy. Among the most striking pieces of old architecture in the town is the famous chateau, dating back nearly 500 years with its picturesque setting by the water of the Indre River. The turrets that jut out with their sharp spires are particularly eye-catching, representing one of the earliest examples of a Renaissance chateau still standing in France today. The church close by is even older, with certain sections originating from the 9th century even though the newest parts are just 400 years old. The town is also famous for its excellent rose and white wines made from grapes grown in surrounding vineyards. Azay-le-Rideau hotels are generally found around the chateau, north of the river and close to the main Avenue Adelaide Riche.
