Introduction to Avignon - Le Pontet
The most populous suburb of France's charming papal city of Avignon is Le Pontet, a useful resting place itself for visitors who don't want to stay in the city. Although this satellite town is located a fair distance north of Avignon, travellers can easily move between the two thanks to an efficient public transport system. Few tourists actually stay this far out from Avignon, but there are a handful of hotels in Le Pontet. The Golf Grand Avignon is one of the highlights here, featuring an 18-hole world-class golf course. Also nearby is the Centre de Loisirs Capeau, a lovely park ideal for walks and picnics. Le Pontet is close enough to the Rhone River to walk to its banks and enjoy the scenery. While there are a few restaurants and shops in Le Pontet itself, visitors will inevitably spend most of their time in Avignon, where the vast majority of cultural attractions and tourist amenities can be found.
