Introduction to Angouleme, France
The capital of the department of Charente, Angouleme is a cathedral city in the west of France, less than 100 miles north of Bordeaux. It's a well-connected city with its own airport that lies on the main N10 motorway. The main tourist attractions here are the still standing parts of the old city, including the ramparts which were built to replace the medieval city walls and the stout cathedral with its intricately detailed stone facade. It's a church in the classic Byzantine-Romanesque style dating back more than 700 years, having undergone regular restoration. The tower, at nearly 50 metres tall, juts out as one of the main sights that make up the Angouleme skyline. Other tourist highlights here include the attractive 19th century Town Hall and the many painted walls featuring cartoon street art. Angouleme hotels are numerous within the centre of the city, just east of the cathedral and close to Boulevard Pasteur.other spellings: angoulemehotels, angoulume otel, anguoleme hotell, anguoleme hote, anguoleme
