Introduction to Amboise, France
Amboise is a pretty medieval town situated on the banks of the Loire, in France. It lies approximately 23 kms to the east of Tours. Hotels in Amboise can get very busy during the peak summer season and it’s advisable to book your Amboise hotel in advance, if visiting in this time. This is a great city to explore on bicycles, with flat riverside roads dotted with many beautiful historical sights. You can also discover the town on foot, enjoying its many bistros, cafs and bars. Visit the Le Clos-Luc museum, once the home of Leonardo da Vinci. Hotels in Amboise offer everything from luxury accommodation through to backpacker sites and camping facilities. Families with children can plan a visit to the Chteau d Uss, rumoured to have inspired Charles Perrault’s retelling of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. It is located some 63kms from the city centre. Another favourite with the children is the Aquarium du Val de Loire. Only about five kilometres from Amboise, this is a large aquarium with thousands of fish, and also has alligators, turtles and even a shark tunnel.
