Introduction to Aigues Mortes, France
Located in the south of France, close to the Mediterranean Sea and just 22 miles from the city of Nimes, Aigues-Mortes is an ancient town dating back to before the birth of Christ, with a number of crumbling relics drawing tourists. The main attraction here is the well-preserved medieval city walls that date back to the reign of Philippe IV the Fair more than 700 years ago. Also still standing is Constance Tower, which is even older with its enchanting spiral staircase that leads to the top of the tower and great views of the surrounding area. Aside from its burgeoning tourism industry, Aigues-Mortes is famous for its excellent wine, asparagus and sea salt that make it yet another centre of French gastronomy. Aigues-Mortes hotels are numerous in the very centre of town and on the main Route de Nimes, with a handful of excellent five-star options.other spellings: aigues morteshotels, aiguest mortes otel, aiguest mortes hotell, aiguestmertes hote
