Festivals and Events in Finland
March/April Festivals

Easter: the Easter season kicks off in March and concludes in April and is a time for religious observances in Finland. It’s also a time for younger citizens to enjoy traditional activities such as egg-decorating and the making of Easter cards. Palm Sunday is one of the most significant days in the season and is a time for children to dress up as Easter witches and knock on the doors of neighbours who reward them with sweets following verse recitals.
April Festivals

Tapiola Jazz Espoo: Tapiola, situated in the greater Helsinki area, is the location for this popular annual extravaganza of jazz music. Well-known artists from both the Finnish and international jazz scenes assemble in the city for five days of live jazz performances.
June Festivals

Kalott Jazz and Blues Festival: the cities of Tornio and Haparanda host an event which sees the best of Finland’s talent in the jazz and blues arena assemble alongside international talent for an exciting showcase of live performances.
July Festivals

Amateur Dramatics Festival: the annual Amateur Dramatics Festival is held at cities across the country and is a chance for amateur theatre groups who have been chosen via competition to showcase their talents in disciplines such as dance, theatre and music.
September Festivals

Helsinki Festival: this festival begins in August and runs through into September and is the largest event of its kind in the entire country’s calendar. Culturally-rich activities are pursued, among which are exhibitions of dance, classical music and photography.
October Festivals

Oulainen Music Week: among the country’s most prestigious cultural events, the Oulainen Music Week presents seven days of live musical performances in categories including folk, jazz and classical. There’s entertainment for children also.
December Festivals

Independence Day: Finnish citizens mark the day their country was declared independent following Russian occupation with a national holiday. The city of Helsinki hosts large scale celebratory activities which include a religious service at the Helsinki Cathedral.
