Introduction to Yllasjarvi, Finland
Yllasjarvi is a small village of around 200 permanent inhabitants, with the population increasing in number during the winter months. The secluded village is located in the west of Lapland, around 50kms from the border with Sweden. It is situated towards the south of Yllas Fell and is surrounded by stunning scenery. Yllasjarvi is an unspoilt and tranquil place which overlooks the Yllas skiing resort and provides Lappish tradition, atmosphere and activities around every corner. The closest airport to the village is Kittila Airport, which lies around 40kms to the east and can be reached via Route 80, which runs directly into the centre of Yllasjarvi. It is a typical ski resort village, and there are a number of Yllasjarvi hotels and holiday cottages to choose from. However, when the ski season comes to a close, the village practically shuts down and activity is limited. The location of the village is ideal for skiers at just five kilometres from the ski slopes.
