The Sokos Vaakuna Hotel Helsinki is placed in the central district of the city, located just across the street from the Central Train Station, and it is connected directly to the large Stockmann Department Store. It is within easy walkable distance of a host of eating outlets, the harbour, an airport bus stop, nightlife spots and offices of Helsinki. The Sokos Vaakuna Hotel Helsinki was built for the Olympics in 1952, and features classic 1950’s decor and fittings. It has a rooftop restaurant and bar that offers a wide choice of good, tasty international cuisines, good wines and great city views. Other facilities include a rooftop sauna, business centre and over 5 well equipped conference rooms. The comfortable guestrooms are a reasonable size, and have wooden floors and free wireless internet access.
The rooms are medium in size. They are in very good condition. The use of pine wood and light colouring give them a warm atmosphere. The bathrooms are also in good condition.
Restaurant:
The main restaurant, the 10th floor brasserie/ dining/ nightclub is on the top floor and serves breakfast, international food and has beautiful views over Helsinki. The restaurant on the ground floor, is an American style diner.
Lobby:
The large semi-circular reception area is decorated in art-deco style. There is a large seating area and a large wooden reception desk.
Exterior:
The hotel is part of a large modern building, also hosting a department store, one of the biggest in Finland. It is a typical 'Helsinki style' building - built for the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 - with a traditional facade.
