Introduction to Sirkka, Finland
Sirkka, also known as Levi, is one of Finnish Lapland's largest ski resorts. Sirkka is the name of the village from which the resort developed around, while Levi Fell is the name of the resort's main hill. The tourism potential dramatically increased when Kittila Airport was opened just 20kms south of the village in 1982. It has now developed into an upmarket resort attracting thousands of Finns with its numerous ski trails and vibrant apres-ski nightlife. Outside winter, there are not as many activities on offer, but the cross-country skiing routes during winter time become hiking trails in the summer. All of these routes start in or near Sirkka village centre. There is a wide range of Sirkka hotels on offer in the village which tend to provide cheap accommodation in the summer months. Evening entertainment is good, with a number of restaurants offering northern delicacies, and lively bars regularly putting on live music.
