Introduction to Salo - City Centre
Salo is where the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia has its development centre and a large production plant. Salon City Centre hotels are therefore largely focused on business travellers, and there are fast links to the capital along the motorway which runs between Helsinki and Turku. Out of the town's attractions, the art museum, has interesting works by local artists. The actual building has been around for over 100 years and used to be an old locomotive shed, but it has been carefully restored. To get a sense of the city's history, a number of individual museums fall under the umbrella of the Museum of Cultural and Industrial Heritage. These are dotted around the city and include the Collection of Electronics Museum, which highlights the breakthroughs made by Finland's electronics industry. The Halikko Museum is another key centre for information, as the displays feature collections from the grand manors and prominent residents, along with an armoury of weapons.
