Ivalo is a small town in Finland in the municipality of Inari, in Lapland Province. It lies on the Ivalo River, around 20kms south of Lake Inari. The population of the town is in the region of 4,000 inhabitants, and there is a small airport here which is the country's northern-most airport. The airport is situated just a couple of kilometres southwest of Ivalo, and taking the E75 route north on departing the airport gets visitors to the town centre in just a few minutes. The town has the municipality's most important services for visitors and locals alike. Health-care centres, restaurants and banks are all found in Ivalo. The town is not a tourist destination, but many travellers using the local airport pass through therefore there are a number of Ivalo hotels providing good facilities for those who do end up staying a night or two before heading farther afield.
