Introduction to Imatra, Finland
The town of Imatra is an eastern Finland settlement located close to the Russian Finnish border. Laying some 200kms from the capital of Finland, the city of Imatra is one of eastern Finland’s quiet gems. It is positioned near the Russian town, Svetogorsk, and welcomes only a small number of tourists each year. As a result, hotels in Imatra are not abundant. Nevertheless, there are some Imatra hotels that are tourist attractions in themselves including the Imatran Valtionhotelli, which is more like a castle, built by the leaders of imperial St Petersburg in 1903. The city is dominated by Lake Saimaa and the Vuoksi River, which are among the most visited attractions in Imatra. Hotels in Imatra have declined in numbers over the years, making booking a room in advance recommended. The closest Finnish city to Imatra is the town of Lappeenranta.other spellings: imata otel, imatar hotell, imatrae hote, imatrae hotes, hotle in imata
