Hameenlinnna, or simply Hame, combines culture with nature, as the city is filled with historical attractions and circled by serene waterways and nature reserves. Out of the historic sites, Hame Castle is the key attraction; the large red brick exterior overlooks the town, while inside is a museum containing artefacts from Medieval times. By the castle and around the city are other interesting museums, including those with slightly obscure exhibits such as the prison, artillery and electricity museum. Hame is also where famous composer Jean Sibelius was born, and a wooden house full of exhibits doucments his childhood influences. Hameenlinna City Centre hotels boasts some interesting locations, with most new developments to the west of the city. The area is also very lively, with more than 100 sports clubs and activities including skiing, hiking. There are also several courses for golfers, while Aulanko Park is a good place to walk to see the rare species of plant while strolling along the banks of the artificial ponds.
