Fiji Travel Guide

Weather

Weather in Fiji
Essentially Fiji enjoys two distinct seasons which could be described as the hot season and cool season although during the latter temperatures rarely drop to levels that could be described as cold. The hottest part of the year comes during the southern hemisphere summer from November to March when temperatures are usually above 30°C and rain levels are low.
During the cool season, which begins in May and lasts until October, temperatures drop but only by about five degrees centigrade on average with distinctly cooler nights. This is the time of year when Fiji can get cloudier and rain is more prevalent.
Many of the smaller islands popular with tourists also usually enjoy better weather than the Fijian capital year round. Mamanuca group off Viti Levu’s west coast are famous for their excellent climate, for example.
Although Fiji is located in the Pacific, an area well known for its tropical storms, cyclones and hurricanes of any magnitude seldom hit Fiji. The main tropical storm season occurs from November to April. When storms are on the way, the local English language news stations are almost always very good at keeping locals and tourists informed.
