Things to do in Fiji
Mamanuca Islands - enjoy snorkelling and the beaches of scenic Monuriki Island
If you love beaches you are going to love Fijji, and in particular Sunset Beach, on Mana Island. As with many of the beaches, here there are miles of golden sand, but what sets this beach apart are the stunning sunsets that can be seen nearly every day. For the romantic there is also a wedding chapel, where you can often see couples exchanging their vows.Mamanuca Islands - go to Monuriki Island, where the movie Castaway was shot
If Monuriki Island seems familiar, that is because it probably is, as it was the island used in the Tom Hanks movie Castaway. Walk along the sandy beaches and trace his footsteps and see where he launched his raft to leave the island. The crystal clear waters around the island offer a great opportunity for snorkelling and watching the colourful fish, and corals below the surface.Nadi - visit Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple
The Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple is the national temple of Fijji and was completed as recently as 1994 although the architecture is reminiscent of buildings dating back over 3,000 years. The temple is dedicated to Hinduism and depictions of the various deities can be found all over the temple. There are also small dedications all around the grounds so take time to see how many you can find.Nadi - relax in the Garden of the Sleeping Giant
If you are lover of flowers and in particular orchids a visit to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant just outside Nadi is an absolute must. The gardens were once the home of Ironside star Raymond Burr and much of the gardens are made up of his private collection of orchids, many of which are native to Fuji and there are over 2,000 different plants to view. There are also a number of ponds in which native lilies can be found and add to the tranquillity of the gardens.Introduction to Fiji
If your holiday dream involves a tropical island, warm azure seas, white-sand beaches, seafood feasts and a totally laid-back experience, look no farther than the South Pacific island archipelago of Fiji, set between New Zealand and Hawaii on the 180° longitude line. The largest island, Viti Levu, is volcanic in origin and holds some of the best coral reefs on the planet, drawing divers from all over.
The capital, Suva, lies on the southeastern coast, and Nadi is the primary tourist transportation hub for arrival and onward travel to the outlying islands.
Visitors to Fiji arrive for the authentic South Pacific ambiance and culture, and are rewarded by pretty resorts set along seemingly endless beaches offering one of the world's best water sports environments.
Viti Levu Island has remote corners holding mangrove forests, isolated villages and tiny fishing ports, while the outlying islands are havens of wildlife and marine species as well as tropical and migratory birds.
Fiji hotels can be anything from coastal or semi-urban resorts to beach bungalow complexes, with prices comparable with developed countries’ tourism hubs.
