By air: Cork and Dublin are the nearest two airports to Kilkenny, with Dublin around 70 miles away and Cork 90 miles. Dublin is easily reached from most British Airports, and budget airlines such as Ryanair offer some excellent bargain flights from British and European cities.
There are long-haul international flights from the USA and Canada, but from Asia or Australia passengers usually fly via London. Cork is not such a significant airport, but there are a number of options to fly here from around Europe, with Aer Lingus the main airline operating routes to destinations in France, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal, Holland, Italy, as well as Prague and Warsaw.
By boat: it is also popular to travel to Dublin by boat across the Irish Sea and then connecting to overland transport to connect to Kilkenny. There are regular high-speed ferries travelling the routes from Dublin to Liverpool and Holyhead.
By train: Kilkenny is on the main Irish Rail network and there are services from here to destinations around Ireland, with regular services to and from Dublin, with a journey time of around two hours. The main train station, McDonagh Station is on Dublin Road, next to the bus station.
