January Festivals

New Year’s Day: citizens across the country heartily celebrate the arrival of the New Year with a further session of drinking and joviality following the events of New Year’s Eve.
February Festivals

Jameson Dublin International Film Festival: the annual Dublin International Film Festival is the place to catch independent movies, world premieres, film shorts and documentaries from both Irish and international directors.
April Festivals

Pan Celtic Festival: with origins as far back as 1971, the Pan Celtic Festival presents a dedicated celebration of all that is great about Celtic culture with everything from parades to live music, dancing and sporting events.
May Festivals

Wexford Opera Festival: the coastal town of Wexford presents its annual spectacle of fine operatic performances as part of this popular 18-day long event. The Theatre Royal is the setting for around 40 daytime events and 18 evening performances.
Festival of World Cultures: held in the city of Dun Laoghaire for two days during the third week of the month, the Festival of World Cultures is an arts festival which celebrates cultural diversity with a wide selection of internationally acclaimed acts. Performances in media such as theatre, dance and circus play alongside movie screenings, exhibitions, markets and children’s activities.
September Festivals

Galway International Oyster Festival: the charming medieval city of Galway plays host to a festival with a seafood theme. Locals gather to enjoy great food, live entertainment and plenty of good craic as the Irish say.
October Festivals

Cork Jazz Festival: sponsored by Guinness and hailed as one of the country’s most prestigious cultural arts events, this annual affair runs for four days at the end of the month. The billing features some 1,000 musicians hailing from across the globe who arrive at Cork to play for enthusiastic performances at more than 75 different venues throughout the city. The Guinness Jazz Trail also presents musical performances in a host of pubs and clubs.
December Festivals

Christmas: as a staunchly Catholic country, Ireland celebrates Christmas with great enthusiasm seeing it both as a time for religious reflection and for letting loose and enjoying oneself.
