Introduction to Mayo County, Ireland
County Mayo hotels cover the full range of accommodation from smart leisure resorts to smaller places for the cost conscious traveller. Westport hosts the majority of the bigger hotels in Mayo, but there’s a good spread all over the region. With a position between Galway and Sligo, County Mayo has some of the best scenery in Ireland. Traditional Irish music can always be heard in the Irish pubs and Mayo hotels around the county, whilst for anglers Mayo offers the very best in fishing opportunities. The lake at Pontoon attracts a real following in the fishing community. Also inland the wild mountainous scenery is great for walking trips, as well as a host of nature activities. One of the great walks in Europe is the 26 mile Bangor Trail, which begins in Newport. In this area there this is the unique story of the salmon called King of The Fish. The beaches along this coast have the great benefit of being relatively quiet and unpopulated.
