Introduction to Dublin City - Rathmines
Like so many places in Ireland, Rathmines is awash in history. Nearly five centuries ago, the area saw the pivotal Irish military adventure known as the Battle of Rathmines, in which English Parliamentarian troops defeated a Confederate and Royalist army, leading to Cromwell's arrival in and conquest of Ireland. Today, things are much more peaceful and happier for the people of an area of Dublin that is noted for its cosmopolitan flavour. Hotels in Rathmines are just a few minutes from the core of Dublin, while affording excellent access to local attractions like Eamon Ceannt Park and Harold's Cross Stadium as well as a series of parks that run through a picturesque area along the River Dodder. The area benefits from a fine range of public transport options, with at least three stops on the Luas tram system's green line being close by.
