Introduction to Cork City, Ireland
Overlooking the spectacular River Lee in the southern reaches of Ireland stands the nation's second-largest city, Cork. Despite its small city centre, the settlement has become a bastion for international travellers and domestic holidaymakers. Cork hotels are largely centred around the heart of the city, making it easy to not only reach the attractions in town, but to access public transport in order to visit sites around it. For first-timers to the city, visiting the Cork Vision Centre is a fantastic idea, as there is a miniature, scale model of the city here. One of the main visitor sites in town is the Cathedral of St Finbarr. It is located close to the heart of the city and is a classic example of Gothic architecture from the 1800s. Great views can be enjoyed from Elizabeth Fort, another stunning structure. Another wonderful attraction is the Cork City Gaol, a great location for history enthusiasts and offering superb views. In the evening, drinking in the city's many pubs is an attraction in itself. Visit our Cork City Travel Guide
