By air: the Manchester International Airport is situated to the south of the city centre, and is a very busy facility that sees a large number of arrivals daily from points in the UK, continental Europe, the US and Asia. Transport options to the centre are plentiful and varied, and include buses, trains and taxis. In addition, there are several car hire operators at the airport for those wishing to travel around the area by car.
By train: the city’s main rail station, Manchester Piccadilly, is located in the centre. In addition, Victoria Station, has a smaller number of trains arriving daily. Trains arrive at Manchester Piccadilly from London’s Euston station throughout the day, operated by Virgin Rail, with a trip time of 2 hours 40 minutes. Service from Manchester Airport to Piccadilly Station runs at a frequency of six trains per hour. The journey from the airport takes only 15 to 20 minutes.
By road: the M6 is the main motorway providing access from the north, such as Carlisle and points in Scotland. From the south, the M1 is the main motorway, coming from London; and from the east, from points such as Norwich, the A47 connecting with the A1 to Nottingham eventually joins the M1. From Liverpool and other points west, you’d take the M56, and follow the signs for Manchester.
