Skating: London has an established skating scene for both inline and traditional quad skates. Apart from the normal recreational skating, you can also take part in street hockey, dance, speed skating and slalom events. If you want to try any of these, head to the Serpentine in Hyde Park.
Group street skates are run from Serpentine Road on Wednesdays and Sundays, and from Hyde Park Corner on Fridays evenings. Skate Patrol organise free stopping and turning classes and are able to asses you for taking part in one of the group skates.
Cricket: the cricket season starts in May and usually finished around September. The ground at Lord's is the home of cricket, and the place where all crickets aspire to play. Test matches take place between England and other cricketing nation such as Australia, West Indies, Pakistan and South Africa. There are also one day internationals which are usually a better spectator event. You can also find many league matches at other grounds in the city.
Tennis: is yet another of the sports that the English invented, even though they don't produce any champions these days. There are plenty of courts open to the public if you want to have a game. London also hosts one of the Grand Slam events every year, the Wimbledon Championships. Steeped in history and nostalgia, it's well worth seeing if you happen to be visiting during late June and early July. A limited number of tickets are usually available outside of the main gate.
