Getting Around

Getting Around London
The prepaid electronic card is valid for bus and underground journeys and works out considerably cheaper. You can also purchase travel cards that can be added to the Oyster Card. They can be bought in any tube stations for a refundable fee.
The Underground: or tube as it is known, is the oldest and most extensive in the world. This means that it suffers from breakdowns and delays, but it is still the quickest and easiest way of getting around. The network has a staggering 275 stations, 250 miles of tracks and 13 different lines.
Bus: sadly, one of London's most endearing icons, the famous Routemaster buses have been withdrawn from service. They have been replaced by a modern single and double decker fleet, and the service is much improved over the last few years.
Congestion charging has led to a significant decrease in traffic, so taking the bus is a good and less expensive option. Tickets must be purchased before boarding at the bus stops as drivers no longer collect fares. Buses operate around the clock with reduced services at night.
